Kinematics of gas and stars in circumnuclear star-forming regions of early type spirals

چکیده
We present high resolution (R 20000) spectra in the blue and the far red of cicumnuclear star-forming regions (CNSFRs) in three early type spirals (NGC3351, NGC2903 and NGC3310) which have allowed the study of the kinematics of stars and ionized gas in these structures and, for the first time, the derivation of their dynamical masses for the first two. In some cases these regions, about 100 to 150 pc in size, are seen to be composed of several individual star clusters with sizes between 1.5 and 4.9 pc estimated from Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images. The stellar dispersions have been obtained from the Calcium triplet (CaT) lines at λλ 8494,8542,8662 Å, while the gas velocity dispersions have been measured by Gaussian fits to the Hβ and [OIII]λλ 5007 Ålines on the high dispersion spectra. Values of the stellar velocity dispersions are between 30 and 68 km/s. We apply the virial theorem to estimate dynamical masses of the clusters, assuming that systems are gravitationally bounded and spherically symmetric, and using previously measured sizes. The measured values of the stellar velocity dispersions yield dynamical masses of the order of 10 to 10 solar masses for the whole CNSFRs. Stellar and gas velocity dispersions are found to differ by about 20 to 30 km/s with the Hβ emission lines being narrower than both the stellar XMM-Newton Science Operations Center, ESAC, ESA, POB 78, E-28691 Villanueva de la Cañada, Madrid, Spain. Star Formation and Abundances in S0 Galaxies
A significant number of S0 galaxies with a detectable ISM show some level of on-going massive-star formation activity in the form of visible H II Regions. A rich ISM, however, does not guarantee star formation: a significant number of relatively gas-rich S0s have no detectable H II regions down to the level of regions ionized by single O stars (e.g., Orion-like H II regions). The Hα luminositie...
متن کاملThe Circumnuclear Star-forming Activities along the Hubble Sequence
In order to study the circumnuclear star-forming activity along the Hubble sequence, we cross-correlate the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 2 (SDSS DR2) with the Third Reference Catalog of Bright Galaxies (RC3) to derive a large sample of 1015 galaxies with both morphological and spectral information. Among these, 385 sources are classified as star-forming galaxies and the SDSS fibre cove...

We have considered some results concerning gas and stars kinematics of nearby galaxies recently obtained on the SAO RAS 6m telescope using the panoramic spectroscopy methods. The circumnuclear regions of the galaxies were observed with integral-field spectrograph MPFS. The large-scale ionized gas kinematics was studied with the scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) in the multi-mode focal r...
متن کاملKinematics in the Starbursting Circumnuclear Region of M100
We have obtained integral-field spectroscopic data, using the SAURON instrument, of the bar and starbursting circumnuclear region in the barred spiral galaxy M100. From our data we have derived kinematic maps of the mean velocity and velocity dispersion of the stars and the gas, which we present here. We have also produced maps of the total, [Oiii], and Hβ intensity. The gas velocity field show...
